Vocal Cords
Vocal Chords is a musical chemistry between two singers: one classical singer and one jazz singer. The basis of their program is in the answer of the following questions:
- What is the musical mood between these two divas?
- How great is the reach of their vocal chords?
- How can they tune their vocal chords with each other?
- What is their connection with other members of the band?
Caroline Lobanov studied voice and light music at the Utrecht and Hilversum Academies of Music, she focused on jazz, pop, improvisation and Brazilian music.
Wynanda Zeevaarder studied classical music at the Utrecht Conservatory, and sings in operas and oratories. She also performs in various forms of modern music, and provides vocal accompanying for silent movies.
Both developed into versatile singers. In Vocal Chords they address the tensions between classical and present day music. They confront each other, while looking for whatever musical chords connect them. During their performance they loudly make fun of all the existing clichés and misconceptions about both their styles. They also show their impressive versatility. Solos and duets alternate with each other, and neither singer is afraid to sing in the genre of the other.
In their program both singers perform their own interpretation of songs by artists such as: David Yzhaki, Peter Tsjaikovski, Kurt Weill, Laurindo Almeida, Alannis Morrisette and Duke Ellington.
They are accompanied by live musicians that may change per performance, (piano, guitar, upright bass, drums, percussion and accordion). Vocal Chords can also perform with a piano trio (piano, bass, drums) or just piano.
